ABUNDANT LIVING SERIES

Have you ever been asked a question that shifted your perspective and inspired you?
Recently, I had an enlightening discussion with my coach about amplifying my engagement and impact in meetings. The simple yet profound question, “Who do you know who does this exceptionally well?” sparked an epiphany. Of course, the ROCK thru tenant Connection was the answer! In this Abundant Life series article, I’ll reveal the transformative power of Connection to gain knowledge, showing you five actionable ways to unlock the wisdom surrounding you. (And Shannon, I’m looking forward to utilizing these techniques to learn from you! 😉)
The art of wisdom is in the questions you ask others.
CONNECTION

Apply it
- Identify Potential Mentors: Identify individuals within your network, family, or community with valuable knowledge or experiences about topics you want to learn about. Look for people with insights or skills in areas that you want to grow in. For example, if you’re interested in starting a small business, seek guidance from a successful entrepreneur who can provide insights into business strategies and overcoming challenges.
- Establish a Connection: Reach out to others, even if you don’t know them well, to express your interest in learning from their wisdom and experiences. Share your enthusiasm for their expertise and ask if they would be willing to share their insights with you. For instance, if you admire someone’s public speaking skills, express your admiration and ask if they can share tips on effective communication.
- Ask Thoughtful Questions: Prepare thoughtful questions that delve into the knowledge and experiences of your mentors. Seek advice, guidance, and perspectives that can help you better understand the topics you’re interested in. For example, if you’re passionate about photography, ask experienced photographers about their favorite techniques and how they approach different subjects or overcome specific lighting challenges.
- Actively Listen and Learn: Practice active listening during your conversations with mentors. Pay attention to their words, ask for clarification when needed, and absorb the valuable information they share. Take notes to remember key points and ideas. For instance, if you’re learning a new skill like cooking, actively listen to experienced chefs and note down their cooking tips and flavor combinations.
- Seek Constructive Criticism: Ask someone you admire to observe your work, skills, or actions. Set up regular sessions for them to provide feedback and guidance on areas where you seek improvement or growth. For example, if you’re honing your writing skills, ask a seasoned writer to review your work and provide constructive criticism on structure and storytelling techniques.
Remember, the wisdom and generosity of others are invaluable resources on your journey. As you seek guidance and insights, be open to sharing your knowledge with others. Your skills, talents, and unique perspectives can benefit those around you. Keep tapping into these collective resources, keep learning, and keep growing. ROCK thru with the support and guidance of those around you! XO ~ Lee
